Human flip books and strange optical illusions

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Once a month the Magic Lantern Society publishes a newsletter called ‘New Light on Old Media’. You might think that members of the Society would only be interested in historical matters relating to the heyday of the magic lantern. You’d be wrong. Many artists and performers around the world have rediscovered Victorian optical entertainments and early techniques for creating the illusion of movement and incorporate them into their work. And, of course, the projection of digital imagery onto buildings has become an art form in its own right.

New Light on Old Media provides a fascinating glimpse into this rather strange world. This edition includes human tattoo flip-books, 3D road art and floating images created with 600 hundred mirrors ….. and more!

There are over one hundred illustrated articles about Victorian slide projection and links to my historical photo-booklets on Amazon, my Ebay shop for magic lantern slides and Etsy store for historical photo greetings cards with a twist. You can read about my authentic Victorian magic lantern shows and talks on ‘Optical entertainments before the movies’ and lots more!
